Sankara Nethralaya Senior Consultant and Director – Medical Affairs makes a strong impact at major Ophthalmology meet



Dr Pramod S.Bhende, Director – Medical Affairs and Deputy Director & Senior Consultant, Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Department of Vitreo Retinal Surgery participated in the 9th Annual Ophthalmic State Conference titled ‘Uttara – Eyeone 2012’ conducted between 26th – 28th October 2012 at the picturesque Jim Corbett National Park Resorts on the banks of the Kosi river, at the invitation of the Uttarkhand Ophthalmological Society

The two talk sessions presented by him on ‘Postoperative Endopthalmitis – Management Options’ and ‘Globe perforation during periocular infection’ How to identify and manage? drew great interest and were very well received by the participants. Dr. Bhende was also honoured as the judge for the Free Paper session and called upon to Chair the Uveitis symposium. The meet witnessed a special competitive session titled ‘Ophthalmic Premier League’ in which 4 teams from all over the country participated. The teams presented 2 video presentations each of 3 minutes duration on an interesting surgical case or complication which they had encountered and solved effectively while other team members probed and critically analyzed the process and techniques used. The presentation on the critical ophthalmic procedure ‘Management of dislocated SF IOL’ presented by Dr Pramod Bhende’s team was adjudged as the winner of the competition.

The highlight of the meet was the awarding of the Gold Medal for excellence in ophthalmology and Vitreo- retinal surgeries to Dr Pramod S.Bhende by the Uttarkhand Ophthalmological Society. The occasion provided a wonderful interactive platform and an opportunity to catch up with old Fellows from Sankara Nethralaya like Dr Mahesh P.Shanmugham, also a winner of a gold Medal on the occasion.
