His long tenure at Sankara Nethralaya was marked by watershed achievements in diverse areas and his move to Deepam Hospital (a multi speciality) marks a step from a single specialty hospital to the greater challenges of a multi-specialty hospital.

An academician par excellence Shri A Mahalingam has impressive academic credentials in diverse areas such as Hospital Management, Operations Management, Training &Development from reputed educational institutions like LIBA, IGNOU, BITS, Pilani to name a few besides attending and as well as organizing  high profile Total Quality Management programs, seminars and training sessions.

He has donned several caps during his long tenure at Sankara Nethralaya and has brought a glorious feather to all of them. While his professional achievements in diverse areas like enhancing patient inflow, improving patient satisfaction levels, employee productivity, revenue, Total quality Management are noteworthy he also played a major role in building a strong rapport and goodwill with the Media, stakeholders, government and NGO agencies and the outside world at large.  While his professional excellence and achievements would make a long list, what endeared him to the management and colleagues at all levels is his utmost humility, transparency, team spirit, the attitude to lead from the front, set a fine personal example, own responsibility and share the credit for success with team mates.

Serving directly under the legendary (Founder of Sankara Nethralaya Padma Bhusan) Dr. SS.Badrinath, whom he considers his guide and mentor left an indelible impact on his work ethics and made him imbibe the qualities of service and compassion the hallmark of Sankara Nethralaya.

As the Chief Operating officer of Deepam Hospitals his major challenge would be in enhancing existing systems and processes, increasing visibility, reaching out to corporate entities, creating a strong brand image and goodwill for the institution, setting up the academic and research arms and positioning Deepam as a preferred healthcare destination for domestic and overseas patients in a highly competitive healthcare marketplace.
