The Round Tables of Madras 1 have their own special place in community services and care and it was a proud moment when the members of one of its chapters the Round Table of Madras 1 decided to commemorate their 55th year of its service by funding 55 cataract surgeries for indigent patients at Sankara Nethralaya. In a simple function the chairman and office bearers of the club accompanied by veteran cricketer Shri Krish Srikanth an old member of the Round Table handed over the funds for the same to Dr SS.Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Dr S.Bhaskaran, Chairman, Dr Vasanthi Badrinath , Director, Clinical Services, Sankara Nethralaya after which the old friend and well wisher of Sankara Nethralaya was honoured with a shawl by Dr SS.Badrinath. Speaking in the occasion Dr SS.Badrinath answered queries from the office bearers of the club and gave a detailed account of the community services rendered by Sankara Nethralaya at various levels and how the Round Table could play a critical role in these initiatives. He welcomed the members assembled to pay a visit to Sankara Nethralaya with like-minded counterparts for a better understanding of its activities and a real-time feel.
Addressing the visitors Dr S.Bhaskaran, Chairman, Sankara Nethralaya explained that while Sankara Nethralaya is able to meet its commitment to the community from its funds generated by itself it needs the assistance of philanthropic individuals, corporate bodies and socially conscious institutions like the Round Tables to meet its increasing demand for cost free service to indigent patients and research initiatives.
The show stealer of the evening undoubtedly was shri Krish Srikanth an ex -member of the Round Table of Madras and an old friend and well wisher of Sankara Nethralaya. The Ace cricketer and indefatigable run getter was seen in ‘Top Form’ exhibiting the legendary speed that he did on the field, clarifying doubts from the Chairman Emeritus, Dr Ananth Badrinath and Dr Vasanthi Badrinath, encouraging the young office bearers of the Round Tables of Madras 1 and giving useful tips on how they could reach their goal of donating mobile eye care units to Sankara Nethralaya. It was a demonstration of his proactive involvement with an institution he cherished and the high esteem he has for Dr SS.Badrinath.
The visit ended on a positive note with the members of the Round Table and Shri Srikanth being taken on a tour and briefed on the twin surgical bus by Shri Suresh Kumar , Manager, Projects, Sankara Nethralaya.
