Members of the Accounts and Audit fraternity have been a traditional ally of Sankara Nethralaya ever since its inception and have assisted in its growth both directly and by influencing corporate contributions. The senior management of Sankara Nethralaya arranged an informal meet of the members of Institute of Chartered Accountants to keep them updated of the developments at Sankara Nethralaya and its future goals and objectives on 27th October 2012 at the Sri V.D Swami Auditorium, Sankara Nethralaya Main campus.
Ms Akila Ganesan, Senior General Manager, Sankara Nethralaya, the compeer of the evening’s proceedings extended a warm invite to the esteemed dignitaries and thanked them for their concern and interest in Sankara Nethralaya which had brought them for the function in the midst of their busy schedules. Speaking on behalf of the Chartered Accountants Lion G.V Raman recalled his old association with Sankara Nethralaya and its impeccable service to the poor and needy, he underlined the critical need to support a service oriented healthcare institution like Sankara Nethralaya in the face of rapid corporatization of healthcare and mounting cost of the same in the country. He exhorted the members of the Chartered Accountants Institute to play a role in this by creating awareness on Sankara Nethralaya in high quarters. Shri Murali and Shri G.Narayanan members of the Institution who spoke next echoed the sentiments of Shri G.V Raman by emphasizing the need to support an institution like Sankara Nethralaya.
The visiting dignitaries were given an in-depth view of the spectacular achievements of the Vision Research Foundation in the field of Stem Cell and Nano-biotechnology by Dr S.Krishna Kumar, Head of Department, Department of Ocular Pathology and a detailed briefing on the designing and services of the twin surgical bus by Dr Rashmin Anil Kumar Gandhi, Director elearning, Director, Sankara Nethralaya Academy and Consultant Neuro-ophthalmology department. This was followed by an exhaustive and absorbing presentation of Sankara Nethralaya since its inception, its growth and achievements by Dr Tarun Sharma, Director, Shri Bhagwan Mahaveer Vitroretinal services department and an emphatic appeal for funds to meet its research and service commitments.
The function came to an end with a warm Vote of thanks by Shri PR.Ravindran, Chief General Manager, Sankara Nethralaya, thanking the dignitaries for accepting the invite and honouring the function with their presence. He narrated a heartwarming and motivating episode of the personal involvement of a leading industrialist and member of the Board of the Aditya Birla Sankara Nethralaya in the community services of the institution. Shri Ravindran highlighted that Sankara Nethralaya had a very sound money management mechanism which helped it to sustain on its own and meet its establishment expenses from its own earnings; he underlined the need for external funding to meet its ever increasing research and community services and made a fervent appeal for the same.
