26th
January – which is known as Republic Day in India. India got its
constitution on 26th January 1950 so it is also known as red letter
day in the Indian history. (26 january) Republic Day is celebrated as a festival in
India
every year. On 26th January 1950, India became a Sovereign Democratic
Republic. The meaning of Sovereign is a country which is not only internally
supreme but is also independent of any outside control and on that day the we
became the democratic nation. The meaning of democracy is a government of the
people, by the people and for the people. In a Republic, the Head of a State is
not hereditary.
Do you know that the
constitution of was ready on on 26th November, 1949 but why our leaders choose
26th January 1950 to be a republic Day ? The reason behind this is
on 26th January 1930, the All-India Congress Committee at its Lahore
Session held under the Presidentship of late Pt. Jawahar Lai Nehru pledged that
India ’s
aim was “Purna Swaraj”. This means that they wanted complete freedom. They want
the nation where no outsiders can rule.
We got freedom on 15th
August 1947 and it takes around two year in the formation of Indian
constitution. Both Independence day (15th August) and Republic Day
(26th January) reminds us of the great sacrifices made by the Indian
people to realise their pledge of complete independence from British rule.
Hence this national festival is celebrated throughout the country with great
enthusiasm and with great pomp and show. As this is out national festival so
all the school, colleges, shops etc are closed on this day because there is a
national holiday on this day.
In the capital city of
India which is Delhi , this festival is
celebrated with a great pomp and show and with great joy. Thousands of people
from all across the nation visit the capital city Delhi to watch the Republic Day Parade. Not only people from India but
foreigner also reach there to watch the awesome republic day parade.
The preparation of
Republic Day starts 1 month before the Republic Day and there is a final full
dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade on 24th January every
year. Thousands of people gather there to watch this rehearsal of Republic Day.
The purpose of this full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade is to
identify the loop hole and rectify this for the event of 26th January.
Every year the
Republic Day parade be the center of attraction. In the republic day parade
there are various types of guns, tanks, rockets, missiles, bombs etc are shown.
After Republic Day
parade there are many cultural activities held by the representatives of
different states which are really awesome and mind blowing. Everyone watch all
the cultural activity with a keen interest and joy.
At night all the
government buildings like Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Central Secretariat, Parliament
House, India Gate, etc. were illuminated with colorful lights and all these
buildings seems to be a new bride.
