About
us:
The Sankara Nethralaya
Academy (a unit of
Medical Research Foundation, Chennai) is a forerunner and leader in the area of
imparting healthcare and health management technology and draws its strength
from its parent organizations, Sankara Nethralaya, the Medical Research
Foundation and Vision Research Foundation, a State of the Art Research Facility.
Sankara Nethralaya, meaning “The Temple of the Eye”, is a leading super
specialty institution for ophthalmic care in India and was founded in 1978 as a
clinical arm of the Medical Research Foundation; it is a charitable,
not-for-profit institution, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Sankara Nethralaya
has grown tremendously since its inception— thanks to the unconditional and
generous support received from all quarters of society — and has gained
international excellence for its high quality and affordable eye care services.
Its goals include providing quality ophthalmic care at affordable costs to paying
patients, free eye care to indigent patients, high level teaching and training initiatives
to create an army of capable eye care professionals to combat blindness
affecting the population of India. Today, the institute has over 90 eye care
professionals examining around 1,500 patients and performing around 125 surgeries
every day.
The objective of the Sankara Nethralaya Academy
is to create highly knowledgeable and skilled professionals conversant with
every area of healthcare and hospital management, to meet the increasing demand
for competent professionals in this segment.
Healthcare management is
emerging as a boom industry, thanks to myriad factors like increasing health
awareness among the general public, a disturbing increase in lifestyle and
environment related ailments and debilities and the recent entry of corporate
entities into the domain of healthcare.
About the Seminar “Emerging Trends in Hospital Administration’’:
